Though not officially, summer has arrived. The days are growing longer (and if you’re lucky, warmer) and you might find yourself dreaming of all the ways to make the most of the season. Heading outdoors is an obvious choice, particularly when you can get your friends and family into the mix.

There’s just something amazing about dining outdoors. Feeling the sun on your face and the breeze in your hair with your favorite beverage in hand—that’s what summer is all about. Perhaps you’re organizing the party or simply planning to attend; either way there are a few things to remember. We have some entertaining tips to get things started:

Lay it out: Let’s be honest; a party isn’t a party without food. From hors de oeuvres to the main course—and of course on to dessert—variety is key. Incorporate flavors and sides that will appeal to every guest, no matter their taste. A little something sweet is always a crowd favorite.

Dress it up: Table décor doesn’t have to be fussy; in the hot months simplify is key.  We adore these DIY ice buckets made with fruit and flowers from The Chic Site for a little extra something extra. Place potted plants and herbs on the table for some variety. The key word here is fun.

Don’t forget the finishing touches: put a string of outdoor lights in the trees to set the mood. Chill the wine, set out plenty of chairs and turn up the music.

What’s your favorite way to entertain in the summer?
