chocolate and cheese sandwich recipe

According to scientists, dark chocolate and parmesan cheese is the perfect pair. They say dark chocolate’s depth of flavor is an ideal companion for the more tart and fruity notes in the cheese. We’ve never been ones to argue with science, so we combined the two in a sandwich. The results made us weak in the knees.

What you need:

4 slices of your favorite bread (we used DLM Artisan Bread; the Classic 10-Grain is our favorite!)

2 T ricotta cheese

1.5 oz of dark chocolate, coarsely chopped

¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Butter, for bread

How you make it:

Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Lightly coat one side of each slice of bread with butter. Then, divide ricotta evenly on slices to form a base. Top with evenly sprinkled chocolate and followed by a top layer of parmesan. Top with remaining bread.

Place sandwiches in the warm skillet, cooking until cheese begins to melt (approximately 3 to 4 minutes.)

Once cooked to golden brown color, flip over and cook the other side for another 3 to 4 minutes.

Let sandwiches cool for a few minutes (torture, we know) before slicing in halves and taking in the melty decadence.

This recipe serves two, but we also recommend making several sandwiches and cutting them into squares for a dessert or appetizer.
