We realize it’s a big promise, but this cake really is amazing—made even more so by the addition of crunchy toffee. There are many versions of this cake, but this one happens to be a family favorite of our designer. We gave her grandmother’s recipe the Pure Madness treatment (and of course, a new name).
What you need:
8 oz. package of cream cheese (room temperature)
1 cup powdered sugar
2 cups heavy whipping cream
2 T sugar
9 inch round chocolate cake (from your favorite recipe)
1 package chocolate pudding
1 cup Delicious Dark Toffee, crushed
A large trifle dish
How you make it:
Bake cake according to directions; let cool on wire rack. While cake is cooling, prepare pudding according to box instructions and store in refrigerator.
In a chilled metal mixing bowl, whisk sugar and whipping cream until cream reaches soft peaks (yields 4 cups whipped cream)
In a separate bowl, combine cream cheese, powdered sugar and 1 cup of whipped cream.
In your trifle dish, layer the following:
Layer 1: cream cheese, powdered sugar and whipped cream mixture
Layer 2: chocolate cake, broken into pieces
Layer 3: 1.5 cups whipped cream
Layer 4: chocolate pudding
Layer 5: 1.5 cups whipped cream
Top with crushed Delicious Dark Toffee
